Old Loggers Path

The trail is a 27.1 mile long circuit trail located in northeastern Lycoming County. The starting point is located approximately 2.7 miles Southwest of Ellenton near the ghost town of Masten. The trail is located entirely on State Forest Lands, land that had formerly belonged to the Central Pennsylvania Lumber Co. The trail layout has taken advantage of the engineering expertise of the early logging railroaders as it follows the grades. The highlights of the trail are the many cuts & fills on the grades, Rock Run (one of the prettiest streams in Pennsylvania), the vistas that look into the McIntyre Wild Area, Pleasant Stream and the LoyalsockTrail region.

The trail is blazed in orange. There are some elevation changes to be found on this trail, the climbs and descents are gradual as they follow the many abandoned railroad grades. Major water sources on this trail are Rock Run, Pleasant Stream, and Wallis Run as well as a couple feeder streams found along the circuit hike. A relatively easy hike that can be accomplished in three days.

Five of us completed this hike on 5/13/08 through 5/15/08, going clockwise. The intent was to camp at Pleasant Stream on night one (and we did), and Rock Run night two (which we didn't). Upon reaching Rock Run at 4:30 PM, we decided just to finish up the remaining 7 miles or so and leave that evening. The vistas on Sharp Top (steep climb) and Sullivan Mt. were terrific. The mountain laurel was in bloom, the weather was hot and humid. The Pleasant Stream campsite was good, with plenty of water. Rock Run was outstanding. The Trail was well-marked and couldn't be easier to follow. I enjoyed the OLP and it surpassed my expectations. Excellent trip.

just finished this hike today 5.4.08-5.7, did it clockwise, camped along pleasant stream the first night and rock run the second night, very peaceful both nights. day one was a fairly easy hike only challanging out of willas run. pleasant stream is a great campsite. day two offered many vistas and the rock run campsite was really nice, we forgot our football at rock run. day three was pretty quick as we opted to trail run much of the 6.5 miles, jumped in pleasant stream when we returned to the car. a vw gti is not a good car to drive on pleasant stream road we bottomed out at the same spot twice
